Sharpe Knife Company

This project was a large undertaking spanning multiple months with the goal of sharpening (heh, heh) my skillset in 3D. Referencing a knife I own, I photographed, blueprinted, and then designed a mesh that I then applied custom materials to with Cinema 4D and Redshift. I then created a series of animations, exploring what a small social set would look like to show off the product. (This is still in progress, but I’ve added development work here until it is completed.) I designed a pseudo-brand identity, applied it throughout the assets, and then created a mock ad campaign tying it all together.

The mesh was redesigned a few times in order to achieve optimum polygon flow. The RS curvature node was used in the blade’s redshift material to define a reflection change based on a very small convex normal variance radius, giving the blade a honed edge that glistens when hit with light at the correct angle.

The material was enhanced with imperfection textures to add further realism to the model, and attention was given to ensure a high level of finish that was video-ready.

I lit the scene using lights built with area light maps to further add a sense of realism to the reflections, mimicking a high-end studio lighting set up.

The imagery surrounding this text shows various explorations into visuals that could define the campaign’s aesthetic.
